Zoe is an active Airedale puppy, and like many puppies, explores her world via her mouth. She eats a wide variety of interesting objects, including stones. Here is Nurse Marsha with Zoe, recovering after her lifesaving operation by Dr Russel Basset.. Read more to see the operation picture, and the Xray of Zoe's abdomen, the rock is clearly visible as a large white lump - WARNING the picture of the operation is graphic, so do not view if you are upset by blood. Zoe's owner is very fortunate that Zoe is covered by pet insurance. We strongly recommend all pet owners consider pet insurance to help cover the cost of unexpected accident and illness, as well as chronic health issues.
In the picture above the Xray of Zoe's Abdomen - the rock shows as a large white lump,
Unfortunately, one large stone she ate lodged in her bowel, causing a complete obstruction. The vets at PetFriends operated on Zoe, and removed the stone, along with a piece of her bowel. Zoe is making an excellent recovery.
In the photo below, Dr Russel Bassett is holding the rock in the intestine. The miracle is that the rock has progressed so far along the bowel. The dog's bowel is well adapted to pass foreign bodies, and can pass the most extraordinary objects. Rocks are now off Zoe's menu.
Now Zoe is making a good recovery - Zoe seen here in the photo below enjoying a cuddle with Nurse Marsha. PetFriends Winmalee is open on Sunday, one of the very few veterinary practices to do so. We are available for emergencies like Zoe between 10 am and 12 on Sundays and Public Holidays.
Yes we know only too well what goes inside dog's mouths - I am so glad Zoe is making a great recovery - expected though due to the excellent care that she would get from Petfriends Winmalee.
